Is volatility a friend or foe?

Investors get so nervous about stock market volatility that they sometimes forget what is most important during times like these – patience. The majority of investor’s portfolios are being used to fund retirement which in many cases is a long ways away. Not only that, but even current retirees can expect and should plan to live well into their 80’s or even 90’s so time is usually on their side. Day-to-day volatility and market corrections are part of being invested, not that it always feels good, but it should be expected.
